Your guide to stress-free international travel

International flights are back at Melbourne Avalon Airport – and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you on board!

Our very first international flights are heading to Bali with Jetstar – the perfect spot for sun, sand, and relaxation. Whether it’s your first trip to Bali or your fiftieth, a little preparation can go a long way in making your journey smooth, comfortable, and stress-free.

Here are our top tips for travelling to Bali:

1. Check your passport and visas early

Before you book your ticket, make sure your passport has at least 6 months’ validity left from your planned return date. Most travellers to Bali will need a Visa on Arrival (VOA), which can be purchased at the airport in Denpasar or applied for online at least a week before you travel.

2. Allow time for check-in and security

International flights require earlier check-in times than domestic flights. We recommend arriving at Melbourne Avalon at least 3 hours before departure, so you have plenty of time for check-in, security, and a pre-flight coffee or snack.

For added convenience, online check-in is available for selected Jetstar international flights.

  • For Jetstar Airways (JQ) flights, online check-in opens 48 hours before your scheduled departure and closes 1 hour before.
  • If online check-in is available and you don’t have baggage, visa, or entry requirements, you may even be able to head straight to the gate when you arrive at the airport.

For full details on check-in times, see Jetstar’s international flight guide.

3. Pack smart

Pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, and swimwear for Bali’s tropical climate. Check your airline’s baggage allowance and be familiar with restrictions on liquids, aerosols, and gels in your carry-on (no more than 100ml per item, packed in a transparent resealable bag). Keep essentials like travel documents, medications, a phone charger, and a change of clothes in your carry-on bag, just in case your checked luggage is delayed.

4. Stay connected

Download the Jetstar app for easy access to boarding passes, flight updates, and baggage tracking. Once in Bali, consider buying a local SIM card or eSIM to stay connected throughout your trip.

5. Plan for comfort on the flight

Hydration is key – drink plenty of water before and during your flight. Comfortable layers, noise-cancelling headphones, and a neck pillow can also make a big difference during your journey.

6. Organise travel insurance

Unexpected delays, cancellations, or medical emergencies can happen when you least expect them. Travel insurance provides peace of mind and ensures you’re covered while you’re away.

7. Enjoy the Melbourne Avalon experience

With fewer crowds, easy access, and convenient parking, Melbourne Avalon makes the international travel experience simple and stress-free – so you can focus on the adventure ahead.

Bon voyage – we can’t wait to see you on your next journey to Bali, flying direct from Melbourne Avalon Airport with Jetstar!
